Peanut Butter
by: Natalie Horrocks
One day I came across a nut
So, I brought it into my hut.
I looked and stared and didn't know what to do
Then I took it in my hand and said, "I'll squish you!"
I squished and squished and it didn't budge
Then I thouht, hmm, I'll eat some fudge.
Little did I know the fudge made me think
Then I walked over to the kitchen sink.
I grabbed a tool with a really flat end
And as the hammer came close, I said, "See ya my friend!"
Then the little nut said, "Please, not me!"
And when tears came to his eyes I gave him sympathy.
Me and the nut were as close as ever
And when he asked if I'd squish him I said, "NEVER!"
Then one day, the accident came
I got up to get us a game.
The poor little nut rolled onto the floor
I didn't see him because I was behind the door.
I walked over and yelled, "Oh Nut!"
But I couldn't see him anywhere in my hut!
Then, with a step, I heard a loud sound
I had squished that nut into the ground!!
Now, Momma always said, "What you kill you eat!"
So I scraped that nut right off of my feet.
I placed the squished nut onto some bread
And said, "I'm sorry I made you dead."
And in an instant I opened up and took a bite
And I thought about the taste all through the night.
It tasted so good, I had made something new!
Then I thought, I'm gonna find some more of you!!
And that my friend is how peanut butter began
Outside my hut, near a tin can.
I'm still sad that nut is dead
But it sure tastes good on top of my bread!!
(I know, I'm a dork...but hey, it was clever!)
