Today, I went deep sea fishing!! Holly came with me and we woke up at 5 am to head out to the dock in Waikiki. The name of our boat: Maggie Joe.
I got the tickets through a friend of Jimmy's. We went with about 15 other people and it was fun!!

Me right before we left

The view of the island as we were sailing away...

This is the view of the boat from the top deck. We went about 20 miles off the shore of the island and he waves were incredibly large and it was very hard to walk around without falling over... everyone else who came were drinking on top of that so they were extra tipsy. I was really surprised at how choppy the water was and how big the waves were out there. I thought for sure some of them were going to swallow us whole. It got really bad and some people started to puke over the side of the boat...but don't worry, our captain, Nate, told us where to throw up so it wouldn't come back and hit us in the face.... it was interesting as one by one people started up chucking.... I would think that drinking would make it worse, but as soon as they were done, they would grab another beer. ha ha

This is me fishing. By this time I was feeling a little sea sick myself, but i was determined not to throw up. So I stood at the edge of the boat, hoping I wouldn't fall in and I fished.

at one point I got one on my line, and it was a big one! but then the line broke. Nate (our captain) said that a stupid shark probably got to it.

So, I tried it again...

and this time, I got it! I probably fought that sucker for a good 15 minutes before I was able to get it in.

It was really fun and I was glad the chair was there so I didn't fall over.

It finally came in and Nate grabbed it out of the water

and took out the hook

It was about a 15 pound yellow fin tuna... yea!!

This is one of the hooks
After I caught that I wasn't feeling very well, so I went and laid down for a second, then I decided to go use the bathroom and the smell in there made me run for the side of the boat and I hurled. Then I spent about 3 hours sleeping so that I wouldn't hurl again. I love the catching the fish part of deep sea fishing, but I just can't handle the sea sickness.

Here's me with my tuna and a mahi mahi

Holly with the tunas

This is the whole group that went with our fishies.

I had lots of fun and would reccomend it to anyone!!

ReplyDeleteI am glad you had so much fun... I wish it would of been a week earlier so I could of come... but the sea sick I don't think I want that! Love ya! Mom
holy crap that's a big fish! sounds like lots of fun. I probably would have been one of the ones puking over the side since that's what I did a couple weeks ago just going up to Willard Bay. Stupid seasickness. Looks like fun though! Congrats on your catch!
